The photo I took today is a perfect illustration of the state of distress in which the United States of America found itself on its 250th birthday.

The balloons were supposed to say “USA 250,” but the “U” drifted away from the “SA.”

Ironically, just like the balloon display, there is not much unity among the states these days. 

In my humble European opinion, this major anniversary should be a time for reflecting on what has happened to the country that keeps insisting it is still the greatest nation in the world. 

Unfortunately, the United States of 2026 seems increasingly absorbed by its inflated ego and cheap political propaganda.

The USA has strained relationships with its closest allies, seen its reliability questioned by many abroad, and faced growing concerns about the resilience of its democratic institutions.

Where have the checks and balances gone? Has anyone seen them? 

It seems to me that July 4, 2026, is a bittersweet day—filled with memories of what used to be and fear of the path the country is taking.

Is there any hope left for “the land of the free and the home of the brave”?
