Do you pay attention to car stickers❓
I do it all the time!
Something as little as a bunch of family cartoon characters and a short phrase can tell so much about the driver in front of you: marital and military status, temper and attitude, pet preferences, religious affiliation, hobbies, and even political views.
🇺🇦 I don’t recall car-sticker mania being a thing in Ukraine. It’s not customary to see an art collection of decals on the bumper or the rear window of an average vehicle.
🇺🇸 In the US, on the other hand, new and anxious drivers want to speak to the world with the help of funny stickers like “Please don’t hit me. I don’t know how car insurance works” or “My mom said I can’t speed.”
🐕🐈⬛ The pet parents behind the wheel want everyone to know not only the breed of their dogs and cats but even their background by placing a sticky statement like “Proud owner of a rescued dog” or “My dog is a democrat” (by the way, mine too😉). 🫏
👶🏻 The “Baby on board” sticker somehow turned into “ Former baby on board” (with an outline of a grown man) and “Adults on board—we want to live too” variations I saw on the cars whose owners wanted to show off their sense of humor.
📔Once, waiting in the drive-through lane, I saw a car I later called “a poster on the wheels,” as its back window was covered with a short summary of a memoir the driver wrote after having been released from prison, accompanied by the contact information on where to buy it. Sure, it was a creative promotion, but it was also TMI (too much information) for me—a driver stuck behind the “marketing shark.”
Our family is simple. No stickers on our cars because we like to keep our privacy intact even when driving.
Although, to be completely honest, last year I did give in to the American car trend and finally put on one single decal.
I did it for myself as a token of motivation.
It says “Proud To Be Ukrainian”—yellow letters on a blue background.
At the end of the day, “this is the part of me that no one is ever gonna take away from me.” 🚗 💛💙
