Rejection Is…or What Lessons You Should Learn From It?

How do you accept rejection?

As a writer, I know what it feels like when your work gets rejected over and over again.

Writing contests, ladies and gentlemen!

Why submit your work?

Primarily to build your credibility and reputation. A contest honors diploma can make a difference when looking for writing gigs. It does look good on a resume, doesn’t it?

Another reason is to get readers’ feedback. At the end of the day, we do write for them. As writers, we are torn in different directions, second-guessing ourselves, our talent, and our general ability to write a text worth reading.

I write a lot at the playgrounds. Nature is my biggest inspiration.

A sunset blinding me from a distance, a warm breeze gently touching my cheek, and cicadas’ rhythmic ticks are great free tools to relax and get productive.

Favorite music playing in the comforting night  silence also helps a lot.

What I find most difficult about rejection is the temptation to start devaluing your work and shutting down.

Call me arrogant or self-assured, but I have never felt like giving up.

It’s quite the opposite; rejection motivates me. I take it as a sign of getting more knowledge and a better perspective on how to become a more skilled writer—how to speak to the reader in a way that feels like a friendly conversation, touches readers’ hearts, evokes emotions, and serves as a remedy for their souls.

(I also need to learn to write in shorter sentences.🙃)

During my first college year, I won the Best Literary Translator Award for rendering the monologue in Shakespeare’s comedy As You Like It into Ukrainian.

You all know it. It starts with “All the world’s a stage”

I guess it was a turning point when I truly believed in my ability to engage in “word crafting”.

I got the Master Class subscription today. It is a streaming platform that offers hundreds of video lessons, including writing classes.

I am willing to give it a try. I hope to master my word-crafting skills.

I am determined to find my writing voice.

I am going on a journey of self-discovery. It will not be easy but I know it will be worth it.
